When Running folding or even stressing the cpu the computer shuts off.
I mean not blue screen no blue screen just off! You can hear the power wind down before it goes off. sounds like the PSU is dieing when cpu pulls power.

System specs are

2800+
A7N8X delux
1 gig OCZ 3200
9700 pro
480 watt thermaltake psu

Its wierd Gnomewizardd is over and we are both Baffled!

sounds like your northbridge is overheating.. prop an 80mm fan at it just for proof of concept

check the cpu to see if it's chipped. then try running memtest86 to see if your RAM isn't dead. that's my guess.

memtest was clean and cpu should be fine had same heatsink on it for a while now

check the cpu anyways. and check the temps on it and report back. I bet it does this when you play UT too right? what about, get into the bios and tell me what temp the cpu is at.

bios says 194*F thats what we thought was wrong in windows it say 112*F tried flashing to the previous version of the bios it wouldnt let us.

i'd trust what the bios says over what windows says. the cpu runs unmanaged in the bios, at 100% basically, so I'd belive that 194 F number. take the HS off and redo your AS5. be careful though, I bet that sucker's gonna burn, better leave it off for a few minutes.

the thing is it has a Thermalrigh slk-900a with a 80mm fan on it. andthe heatsink near the bottom was cool to the touch! But hawk might wanna try that !

try this too then. you have a spare hard drive? do an install of windows on it, then install F@H and see if it doesn't crash. I mean it could be a software conflict. if it doesn't crash then you know it's not a hardware problem. look in control panel, admin tools, even viewer. look at the application log for any red Xs or yellow !s and read what they say, you might find F@H is causing errors. however since you say it happens whenever you run anything that taxes the CPU, i'm inclined to think it's a hardware problem.

its not just F@H when we stress it with Sisoft Sandra it shuts off

right that's why i'm saying i think it's more a hardware issue, but then again windows could be screwed up. you should also try bikr's suggestion, but if you have a spare hard drive laying around, try installing just windows and f@h on it to see if gags.

Definitely sounds like the thing is over heating. Are you overclocking it all? Also check the multipliers if there are settings for it in the bios maybe something got set wrong by accident and you are OC'ing it without even knowing.

Hmm... 194F? SERIOUSLY sounds like an overheating problem. Although if it just... Dies... It could be do to a PSU that doesnt have enough juice. How many watts is it rated at?

And with a heatsink/fan combo like that, it shouldnt reach 194. No way. Unless you OC really heavy.

Lol, I accidentally Unplugged my Thermaltake Volcano 9 and ran my PC, playing Halo. Bastard reached 242F before giving out. Still working to this day, too! LONG LIVE AMD FOR CHEAP PEOPLE LIKE ME!

I have an xp1700 cpu and I noticed that my cpu begins to overheat about every 3 to 4 months with my air cooling. I have to take the heatsink off, remove dust, re apply paste, clean fan blades and then temps and things go back to normal. It's hard to notice because very very fine micro particles build up on the statically charged cooling parts in an air system. They build up in the millions effectivly making an insulated coat that to the eye is even hard to see. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry gang, PC was down for a week, then dsl & phonelines went down for a few days because of road construction in the area. And all this when I'm getting my corp set up, so i can go to work to make more money for pc stuff! Been working 10 hr days. Problem solved-- I took the cpu out and cleaned everything real good, then reset cpu with arctic 5, SLK-900a, and an 80mm fan and it's a cool 42-43C while folding 100%. Maxes out at 44-45c when folding and gaming at the same time, so it's set real nice now. Thnx to all for the help.
