Promblems with Windows and my new HD

edited March 2004 in Hardware
I got a WD 36GB SATA Drive the other day and I'm having problems with it.
I also have a 40GB IDE drive in my computer partitioned into 4 drives, which I put my "stuff" in. I got windows loaded in the SATA drive and have hade both drives in my computer running "ok" for a few days now. It has been really unstable though, "blue screen of death" like crazy! This morning I rebooted my computer and it would not boot. The 40GB drive was making a wired noise right after the Windows XP boot screen came on. Then it would go blank. So I disconnected the 40GB and I can boot again. It's still very unstable though. The computers seems to raise hell if I change any settings, install programs, or change drivers. The computer was fine untill I installed the new SATA drive!

The Computer:

Gigabyte - 7NNXP
AMD XP 2800+
Mushkin 512MB DDR400
ATI Radeon 9700 PRO
Santa Cruz Sound Card
Burner/DVD Rom Drive
Enermax 420W PS
WD 36GB SATA
IBM 40GB IDE

sounds like you may have zapped your memory when installing that hard drive. the smallest little static electricity discharge can and will kill it. I suggest you go to http://memtest86.com and download that program to test your memory. btw, that second hard drive is toast if it's making clicks and noises. if you can still back it up and save your stuff do so now, then RMA it.
