Lag

When i am in games my comps lags at times and my ping even gets to about 150-200. When im playing with ppl with a < 50 ping i am at a huge disadvantage even though i am told that i "warp". So anyone with any ideas on how i could lower my ping i'd like to hear your opinions. I use Shaw cable by the way if that helps.

    First check use adaware and anti-spy type material to see if you have anything running on your computer. If you ahve an ad/spy programs running they can kill your bandwidth which would cause the lag issue.

    thats not it i scan with ad aware every week.
    could it just be my connection?

    Is this every online game or just some of them? Go to www.speedguide.net and install the fixes for your OS and your connection type if you haven't. They will do some registry tweaks and adjust the MTU size so that it's most efficient for your network type. Which should be an MTU of 1500. Also if you are running other things like P2P software in the background or streaming anything it'll effect your bandwidth as well.

    Hmm any firewalls that you have up may be causing an issue, though normally that'll be a works or doesn't thing. However I have seen some cases where it was letting certain packets through and not others. There are really a lot of things it *could* be. Ad/spy-ware are some of the most common but since you say it's not that keep checking.
