computer no longer responds

edited April 2004 in Science & Tech
i recently installed windows fd on my com and it works imediatly after installing it but when i do my first reboot to start installing devices and drivers it never turns back on, no signal to the monitor or anything. the only way i can get any thing is to format the hard drive on another computer then reinstall. but then the same thing happens again. any clues on this?

Ok I'll play ignorant. But what's Windows FD?

Now when you are saying no signal to your monitor. Are you not even getting a post screen or any bios options at all? If so then there is something going on even before it's accessing the OS on the HD. Which most likely means that you have something wrong with some piece of hardware on the mobo. Possibly the video card isn't seated correctly. If there is something wrong with any drive it'll still post and put up the bios screens and then it'll give you a detection error for the device.

no, im not eve getting a bios screen. i turn it on and the fans turn on but thats it. the drives all open, you can feel the hard drive spinning and all to. you get rid of the windows os and it starts working again, well the monitor anyway. it was working fine untill i put in this new os on it. i think ill try going back to the old one to try if thats it somehow.

the hd will spin up as long as it's got power. What if you remove the power connector to the HD and then turn your computer on will it post and allow you to get into the BIOS?

    Also still what's WINDOWS FD?????

Windows FD is a custom install that has the following...
So it's something you get bit torrent style off of *******.org for example burn it and install it. It's quite possible that his install cd is bad and he's got a corrupted install.

ok heres my update. i ditched windows fd and reinstalled 2000. well after doing that it worked for like 20 minutes, then the monitor went blank again. i tried rebooting a few times and got no luck. well tonight after work i came hope and turned it on again. well it worked for like 4 minutes then the monitor went blank again. im still not sure if its my vid card or my motherboard. i do have another type of vid car so i may try it out to see if that does anything. my com worked before i put in my water cooled system, but thats also when i put in win fd for the first time to. i know the water cooled bit is sealed good (no leaks) but mabey i over tightened a screw or something and am stressing out a point on my vid card, dont know though. this sucks

Sounds like hardware trouble. Most likely something is over heating and shuttind down.

Internet forums of our type have to be very careful. This isn't a case of 'using the right thing the wrong way', this is legitimately unlicensed use of licensed products distributed by unauthorized means.

Best of luck with your issue. :)
