Explain the new AMD's ?
Hey all, thinking about upgrading my computer, it's been about a year or more.
Looking at newegg, I see so many options for AMD's now that I really am confused as to what is what.
I see Bartons, Opterons, AMD64's, AMD64FX's (like 700 bucks!) etc.. Currently I have an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ running on an Abit NF7-S with 1gig Corsiar XMS series.
I don't want to spend tons of money and get the top of the line rig, but I thought a new processor AMD64 might make a big improvement for me?
What do you guys think, I really need some recommendations here. I would like to keep the same ram I'm using in my NF7S mobo, I would just like to replace my mobo CPU, or just even my CPU. I don't think this mobo can support the new AMD's though, can it?
Also, if I get a new AMD64, will I even see a big improvement on games or 3d apps? Or is the difference so small it isn't even worth it for me.
Any recommendations would be great fellas, like I said I'd like to keep my RAM, I want to upgrade as little as possible (for cash sake).
Thanks!

Opterons are server chips and require diff mem
64Fx is only for people who have a buy load of money or big credit cards like Citrix
A64 is what i run. great middle range cpu. Get the MSi K8T neo Fisr2 with a A64 3200+ which has 1mb l2 cache
A64 is fast. Runs like the devil when running games. In ut my timedemo FPS is average at 1400 FPS. which is unreal!!! Runs apps faster with faster load times and faster install times
