I'm gonna order parts for a new rig like, tomorrow (or later this afternoon; it's 3am now :) ) Any thoughts/comments on what I've selected?

Mobo: MSI K8T800 (changed from Asus)
HD: Seagate 80GB 7200RPM SATA
CDROM: Samsung combo (changed from Sony)
RAM: Corsair Value Select (512MBx2) (1GB)
CPU: Can't decide on either
AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1 MB L2 Cache
OR
AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache

Video: CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce FX5700 Video Card, 256MB DDR. I'm going to hold off getting the latest and greatest vid until the NV40 is in production early June.

Stuff I already have: lian-li case, audigy 2, etc.

:jelly:

get the 3200+ more cache baby! and dont get that asus! I had it and returned it caue it crashed constantly. Get the MSI or abit. And instead of the FX5700 get the FX5900se for 180 bux Less ram but better card I know i had it

I read a few different reviews of the 3200+ and the 3000+ and the performance was really minimal :O The benchies showed a very very small performance gap. I just dunno if that's justifiable to spend an extra 80 bux.

I'm surprised when you had an Asus it crashed... possibly a defective mobo? At where I work, we build a lot of systems with MSI mobos and some of them crapped out on us. Since then I've been a little weary of them :D

On top of that the Asus mobo looks so much sexier than the MSI :jelly:

Edit: ok you may have won this round :P I'm gonna get the MSI KT800 mobo instead... it's $20 cheaper than the Asus and has pretty much the same stuff.

:) I have built 4 A64 systems with the msi board runs the best! The abit is a close second with the asus in the crapper. The 3200+ runs really close when not gaming as the 3000+ but running games that extra cache is nice

Well i see i am too late, but tell me what you think of that samsung combo drive, I've got the 8 mb cache one (cheap bulk one is only 2 mb). It seems to whine on me a little bit, but I havn't had a new coaster to add to my mosly aol collection since I got it.
