The high quality case search... begins.

Any one know of a descent case that has between 4-6 external 5.25's, 6+ internal 3.5's, and a door or cover for the drives in front (to hide ugliness and possibly power switch)? I like high quality, so don't worry about price. I also don't care how many external 3.5's, 1 is fine, 2 as well, but I only use 1. This would obviously be a big case, and this is what I am looking for. Right now I have the Thermaltake somethin somthin, anyway its I think an older model now due to new styles, but it has 4 ex 5.25 (-1temp control), 6 int 3.5's and is nice and roomy.

Any brand names would be appreciated, I know a few of them, like Lian Li, thermaltake, etc.

Well... take a look at Antec towers, or the Lian Li PC-6070, also the Coolermaster Wavemaster. All have doors and are quite different in style... Lian Li is probably the most feature filled. The Thermaltakes are nice, my friend has one but it seems a bit overkill.

But of course my vote is for the coolermaster wavemaster. :D
It truely is a SweeEEET case. It is big, it has a front drive cover, & it has four 5.25" bays exposed, one 3.5" bay exposed, and four internal 3.5" bays. It is ALL toolless (except PSU) incuding removable mobo tray.

The material and craftsmanship is very VERY nice!

the kingwin doesn't have front panel though, right, and what about the Cavilier version from Coolermaster, it's similar to the wavemaster, is it like an upgraded or fancier model?

no front door is correct but the font doors will hit certain drives and will not close right.

I'm havin second thoughts about the Lian Li PC-6070... The only nice fan controller I could use is the Digital Doc 5/5+ but they are like 50 bucks... I would like to just use a Baybus so I think I might try one like the PC-65 or the Kingwin that is just like it. Do the Lian Li universal cd covers work w/ other Manuf? Or how about the Coolermaster ones?

Wow, Kingwin is the new king - this case Kingwin KT-424-BK-WM Black Aluminum Midtower from performance-pcs.com is indeed nice. It has lots of additions, even dust filters. AND it costs $109! So compared to LianLi or CMWavemaster it wins.

That Kingwin is a perfect fit for my Mach II. Exact the right size. Wish i could get one of those. I am SO fed up with the Antec tank i have, which btw are heading for the graveyard soon.

The thermal takes have filters too, they are so wonderful! I just take the vaccum out once and awhile, turn it on, and listen to the high pitched purr of the fans in reverse.

By the way, I think I got my Thermaltake at just the right time, the new ones have downgraded to 4 internal 3.5 inch bays, mine is 6 and I love that, because I could add some raid setups way later on, or now I have 3 hd's so I just space them apart every other one.

Curious, those wavemaster are 2mm thick right? My thermal take is only 1.2, which now seems heavier than most, but is is so flimsy compared to my old steel case, that old steel case... so much torture (due to it being a compaq), so many kicks, 1 big dent that makes opening the side difficult (biggest rage ever against it), ahh, but STRONG!

Actually it is aluminum, its just that the front has a lot of steal and plastic, the front end is real heavy and would DEFINITELY hurt if dropped on a foot, and there are a few corners which can be sharp on the front too. Are you sure about the steel? I might check if I can find specs on web, but I can't check the box cause I don't feel like climbing up into my attic rafters and digging through there.

well, if it is the case (get it, case, haha, so funny, ok i'm done now) the more I can look forward to the better, hehe :jelly: :guitar: :jelly:

Well I have the Xaser III 2000, You might be referring to the Xaser III 1000, I think the 1000 is steel and 2000 is aluminum, not forsure though, but according to a couple websites thats the best I can come up with now. It's almost like they're trying to hide the actual facts of the thing or something. They don't make it too clear.

    Here's one sites description:

    http://www.xoxide.com/thxaiiiv1.html <---1000A <---aluminum front bezel

Hey, I just visited MicroCenter, and found they have a changed inventory of cases, they have that wavemaster. It has a magnet to keep door closed which was neat, but I just didn't quite like it, I guess I just like mine a little better, BUT it was definitely VERY STURDY and THICK and actually still has a metal front door. ALL the other cases including Antec, Thermaltake (new crappy version) had the cheesiest worst flimseist crappiest plastic front doors that could possibly be made, heck I even broke 2 of them right off the cases and couldn't get them back on. I was like "WTF" I don't want this crap. The point of a door that I see it is to number one buffer out noise, number two look good (meaning real metal, not plastic wanna bes), and 3 to have a lockable front and lockable power on switch. This brings me to one last thing, all the locks were the worst stupidest little plastic 8mm or less long things that could easily break. Mine is much bigger and is 100% metal. As you can see I hate plastic, I hate how plastic rules the world. What ever happened to metal where you could go and buy something and it would last decades, if not a life time, not anymore, plastic limits you to a measly couple years at absolute most (referring to broad spectrum). No case seems to satisfy me, guess I'm too much of a perfectionist. I'll eventually find one, though. I will have eye and head aches from overtime on internet search.
