XP crash on transfer of lots of files

edited April 2004 in Science & Tech
Hi there,

I've got 2 computers, both with XP Home. One has all my mp3s and photos on it which is many thousands of files. I have them linked through a switch and using either FTP or Microsoft Filesharing, after ~150 files, the donor computer stops sending data and the donor system slowly freezes up. The cure is a reboot but it comes back every time. I've tried a crossover cable direct, but same problem.

2 x XP Home, 2 x Realtek 10/100 adapters, Linksys router joining them.

Any ideas? Many thanks.

Full specs of both computers here please. Mobos, chipset and interfaces for the drives.

Do either of the computers use an older via chipset or some sort of onboard raid card?

My guess is first a faulty network card.
