Hard drive water cooling, have you tried and is it worth it?

Has anyone tried a water cooler for harddrives? What ones, kinds, styles have you used? Do they perform like they should? AND VERY IMPORTANT, do they HAVE to be put in 5.25 inch bays to fit?

Here's one I found:
http://www.xoxide.com/ha.html
and a different one:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-999-988&depa=0

Oh, and do any of these buffer the sound/vibes more than not using them? Also, do certain drives run hotter, like for example the raptors @10K? Don't explain anything obsilete, high end 7200 and 10000 rpms are all I'd ever want to use until further technology.

I can't see a HDD block fitting in a 3.5" bay... so yes, I will take a guess and say that they only fit into the 5.25" bays. I haven't seen any big name ones from Swiftech or anything so I don't think they're that popular yet... I would imagine they do do the job tho.

so, to cool a harddrive you want to have contact on the 2 skinny sides of the drive? Is this where it has to be? The block or whatever cant go on top or can it? This is all I have seen in the water cool and heatpipe, but the fan ones might be different, I haven't been to much of a fan for the fan ones (get it, I crack myself up, hey litterally, nah, just kidding, I sure have been easily finding stupid humor by accident lately). I refuse to add noise, that is the whole point of this being in "water cooling," or atleast one of 'em.

There's no need whatsoever to use any cooling on the harddrive unless your ambient temperatures is over 30c. Watercooling on them is just a waste of waterflow and also expensive.

maybe, but running several raid drives and needing space (if only 4 int. 3.5s exist) then I might as well have some cooling added into it, instead of just an adapter. I really want to get a seriously awesome water setup sometime. I really want no air, so everything I would like cooled. I might also (hopefully) build a wooden cabinet shaped and sized for a computer case and a separate area for the pump and radiator and stuff. This would make it quiet enough for me, and with water I shouldn't have trouble keeping it enclosed, plus I would probably never need to open it because I use virtual drives for all my games. I better get designing...

You still need air for the radiator. As for several raid drives, i hope your'e not planning on having more than one drive watercooled? Trust me, the drive doesn't need any additional cooling if your ambient is up to par. But, having said that, it's everyones own choice off course.

what about the raptors, don't they get hotter? or do they have more heat technology incorporated within them?

I have a raptor and it's much cooler than the old WD se's i had. I just took this picture with a wireless temperature meter. Sorry for the crappy photo though but you can see that it's not hot at all for a harddrive. Mind you, the rig is on 24/7 and the ambient is a toasty 25c here.

Dang I like those sensors, I had one for a while, I think it was accurate even pointing the laser into the sky at night, it read different readings with clouds, the moon, airplanes, etc, it was awesome. I even tested it with my pc temp probe, they both read the exact temp to the tenth of a degree both celcius and ferenheit.

That's good to hear about the raptors, are those raptors louder, though?

And, are you from Europe Mackanz?

This temp meter is brilliant! Very easy to pin-point the hotspots on a mainboard with this thing. Costs a fortune though.

The rig is so ugly you wouldn't believe it. But there is a few pics around here somewhere. I just need to find them first.
