Would the dual ball bearing be better? What's this "Hydro-wave bearing" system? They (dual ball bearing) are the older model. Just to let you know these are made by Panasonic, just in case someone didn't know.

    Thanks.

Sleeve Bearing motors tend to be slightly quieter then ball bearing, BUT they have a shorter life span (some times much shorter)

I now have 2/4 fans I'd like to try out, atleast of Panasonic brand anyway, still hoping to test a papst. I wanted to try out the ball bearing, and sleeve bearing 80mm, as well for the 120mm version.

I have the ball bearing 120mm and the sleeve bearing 80mm.

The 120mm is definitely a little loud, BUT it puts out a TON of air! AND can be turned way down to like 3-4 volts and still push out more air than my 80mm thermaltakes. It is very relaxing hum sound and air movement sound, calm, so the added noise doesn't annoy me as much, but it is still sound on full power.

The 80 mm I am disappointed with. It would be SO quiet if it didn't "click/rattle" all the time, I can't get it to stop no matter what voltage. This too puts out a good amount of air for an 80 mm, but it clicks! I've heard that a lot of sleeve bearings click (like from papst) but the ones that don't click are absolutely wonderful, I think this may be the case here, too bad I have a clicker!

/edit--- it seems the sleeve bearing 80 mm can be pushed in on its motor. I can "click" it or push it in using my finger, I can't do this with my ball bearing 120mm model. Also, probably due to this I notice it hardly clicks when blowing air down, but up or sideways and it clicks, kind of a disappointment in the directions, but it may mean it is fixable

yagga, I have several Panaflo fans in 80mm and 120mm sizes and they are great, quiet fans. The sleeve bearings that Panaflo uses are impregnated with oil and will last as long as a ball bearing fan and run quieter due to the bearing they use. The 80mm Panaflo L1A fans I have don't move a whole lot of air but you can't hardly even hear them and the 80mm H1A fans I have move as much air as a 40 cfm Sunon but are as quiet as the low speed Sunon fans. And the 120 X 38 mm Panaflo M1A fans I have move about 90 cfm of air but are much quieter than the 84 cfm 120 X 38 Sunon fan or 120 X 25 Enermax fan (adjusted to high speed, which flows about the same cfm). They are great fans and I haven't had a failure out of them yet.

BTW, I got most of my Panaflo fans for cheap prices by looking around at sites like www.mpja.com or catching specials at regular computer supply sites.
