Hello,

Could someone tell me what the advantage/disadvantage of using NTFS is or direct me to the link where I can get such information from? Any input is greatly appreciated.

NTFS helps with indexing and keeping your drive less fragmented. if you have a choice, thats what you want

The one and only reason which convinced me was not having to scandisc after a bad restart.

Performance and the amount of fragmentation seem fairly similar on both file systems to me, though when I first started using XP pre SP1 FAT32 seemed to be faster.

Running windows XP, I have only defragged once, hmm. maybe twice in the last 6 months and that was about a week a go actually. For the most part it said I had ZERO fragmented parts for NTFS, which is all I run now. The only partition I had a "couple" fragmented parts was the one I do a lot of shifting around and downloading to. My apps and windows partion were 100%clean. I'll never go back to fat32.

NTFS is more stable because of it's indexing service and more secure because of reasons I don't remember IT JUST IS! Fat32 is faster though, but prone to crashing, fragmentation and FAT table fowl ups that NTFS just doesn't seem to suffer from. Also, and this can't really be proven as it's just my own observations I've had more hard drives fail in a work environment that were running Fat32 then those running NTFS and the drives that failed I've had a better success rate recovering data off NTFS then Fat32. But since the types age and quality of all the drives are extremely varriable don't put much into that last thing, it's just what I've noticed in the last 5 years.

Yeah, I had to do millions* of XP installs and each one was a little different for me (also had other os most of the time). Anyway, I remember when I had fat32 the windows xp splash screen did load a little faster, but also take in mind I think you can encrypt, add passwords, and a couple other things if you have NTFS (in XP atleast).
