Really SLOW burning

edited April 2004 in Hardware
Hi guys, i was wondering if anyone could suggest a fix or a cause for really slow cd burning, like im lucky to get 5X out of a 52X burner. Im not really sure which path to take to sort it and i dont have enough time to troubleshoot every possible cause, any help is appreciated. Im not expecting 52X burns, but i dont think 30-40 is out of the question....? Its an LG drive, running on IDE1 with a 52x cd rom, which reads and installs fine, as does the burner, just wont burn quick. The system is listed below two 80gig maxtors on the SATA in RAID, and 2 60 gig on the other IDE. if anything elce is needed let me know, thanks in advance

how much other crap do you have running in the background and what is it that you are trying to burn?

If you are trying to copy some non-standard disks that are full of bad tracks and need massive jitter correction then that is a normal time. If however you are just trying to make a standard data cd say from a list of mp3's or something like that then, yes you have an issue.

What software are you using to do the burning?

Make sure your using media that will support fast burning.

thanks for the replies, i try and burn mainly mp3s, a few images for backups, picture cds, nothing out of the ordinary, i still get the same problem of the slow speed whatever i burn, i use infiniti media, i think its good for like 48x or something, for mp3s i use easy CD 6, for images i use alcohol and occasionally Nero, all apps burn the same speed, the copies are fine, all work, play tracks fine, just the speed issue with producing them. Dont have anything taxing in the background, at most a browser and maybe winamp or something, nothing that will cause any significant issues with burning

Its gotta be hardware related then.

Hmmmmm........ has it always been slow? have you checked with the manufacturer for issues with that drive? Maybe there are new drivers or a flash that will help/fix the issue.

I wonder if it's an issue going between SATA and the burner. I've read other places before where having that kind of mix has caused problems.
