    This is the solution...

I havent seen the problem come back. Go to start and do a search for "system restore." You'll figure it out. You should come to a folder with dates, you need to choose a date to restore your system settings to. Thats it. Pick a date as close as the computer will allow, usually a couple days. The comp will restart and restore everything to the exact way it was on the date you picked.

    Simple.

That will fix the problem. But it won't stop it from happening again. That's where all the ad-aware stuff comes into effect it'll help block that shit from happening.

Another method is to add a line to your hosts file that looks like

127.0.0.1 ___.______.___ the ___ are whatever that web address for about blank is. so if its www.aboutblanc.com you'd put in
127.0.0.1 www.aboutblanc.com then anytime a website tries to open a window to that page you'll just get a 403 error and no harm done.

The simplest solution is to acquire and install spysweeper by webroot software. It has active spy and adware protection and also removes all "traces" including reg keys, values, etc. I have seen it remove 17,000+ progs and traces from machines that have never been swept with it before. In comparisons I have personally done it finds and removes 400% what adaware does in any given instance. On an initial sweep set the priority to HIGH..it will be a bit scary, because if your machine is badly infested it will use 85-95% of your processor while sweeping and the machine will appear to be locked up. Watching the task manager will provide reassurance that this is not the case. Once the sweep is finished and the quarantine/deletion process begins watch for earing that tell you that removing certain infested files will disable some of your progs (most notably p2p clients), in bad cases the quarantine/deletion process alone takes 30-45 mins.

I've never used that program specifically but I've had experience with other similar evasive - proactive programs. I've always found that 9 times out of 10 they are far more trouble then they are worth. I've seen systems made largely unussable becuase of things they have done.

As for your 400% claim that frightens me alot. To get 400% more spyware removed off a system you are going to be removing a lot of things that aren't really spyware. That's got to be about a 400% case of false positives. There are only so many versions of spyware available. Generally it's something you installed like a browser bar or a cookie on your system from a pop up. Beyond that you are going to be killing normal cookies for tracking login/password information for forums and normal usefull things. Not to mention if it's always active and monitoring things you are taking a performance hit as well.

So that's just my $.02 worth on invasive software like that.
