I currently own a DVD writter & decided to backup some of my DVDs as one of my best films got damaged and didn't want the same thing happening to the rest. I tried to copy it but it didn't work. I spoke to the man in the shop where I bought it & was told that all DVD writters can't copy direct from DVD to DVD without the special software. Is this true & if so where can I get it?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Dvd Shrink I think works. It copies the dvd to your harddrive at many compression rates and then you can copy it back to a dvd. Compression might be neccesary if it is a double layered disk. It's also FREE. Search for it at TechTv.com in downloads or The Screensavers show. If I find where it is I will post a link. I think the main site is a foreign site that borders into the whole copywrite infringments going on around the world, more specifically the USA.

edit/ Actually, I think the official site simply doesn't work for some reason, don't know though, but this is the site/link I told you about: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

That is perfectly fine, and recommended. I think windows xp has a built in burner (just copy the files over) but it doesn't work all that well sometimes. There is also Adaptec cd burner, but the older versions don't work with xp and it has been taken over by nero (the market has, not the company). There are also a few others that you can use to burn things.
Oops, you want DVDs, sorry I don't have a dvd burner, don't really no what software there is for it, I think Nero works though, or some version of it.
