Just gutted out a 5 Disc cd changer and tossed an old 200mhz Cyrix with 64MB ram, 160GB HD into it. I want some software i can throw onto it that requires no user input, and will run on this weak hardware. also need the software to boot directly into a fileserving mode. Im using this box to serve stuff that i dont really want on any obvious rig. (music, movies, etc). The main thing i need it to do is boot with no user input and no monitor connected going straight into a serve state for my linux/windows machines. it doesnt need to be pretty but stable and needing little to no maintenance is a must. Hope someone has an idea for me! thanks for your time folks. gdday

The only solution I can think of is to make a small linux boot using SAMBA. The exact specifics of how to do that I'm not sure on but it's the best way I can think of doing it with hose hardware specs.

One other way is you could have it boot up off a floppy and grab an IP off a DHCP server and log in. Then you can use 'net use' to map the drives on it to whatever computer you want.

Here's a link to do just that.
