Slot 1 and Slot 2? question

Is there such a thing as slot 2? And if there is what cpus are used in it exactly? I am a bit confused over if there even is a slot 2 and if there are incompatabilities between the sub gigahertz intel processors. I know some cpus have 256k, 1mb, and 2mb cache, will all these work with slot 1 or the same motherboard? Will all the PII and PIII between say 300-800+ megahertz work together? (as in the same type, not combining different cpu types together)

I had nothing to do with computers back then and that is why I am asking.

***SOLVED***
There simply is no slot 2, my mistake, finally found the error. No need to post unless there is something you wish to add to my post or if I am still mistaken somehow. ME DUMB :loco:

Slot 2 was for older xeon procs... they have more pin contacts than Slot 1. Slot 1's include Pentium 2's and P3's 450-500MHz. Slot 1 was discontinued after 500MHz I believe.

some of the chips had 256k 1mb and 2mb cache, will all these be compatable with slot 1 in that range?

Also, what are these voltage regulators I've been seeing? Are they necessary? Do they come with a mobo? Do they come with the cpu? What is the point?

    Yes they will be compatible.

I don't know about the voltage regulators... one would think those would be built into the mobo.

Are there adapters to make a slot 2 cpu fit into a slot 1 motherboard? I have seen 1 the other way around, but that's about it. It is near impossible to find slot 2 motherboards!!! Anyone know of any or anywhere, forsure (don't just say www.newegg.com or somthing of that sort, actually know it)?

You can get slot 2 mobo's off ebay.

I'm interested in building an SMP rig now :D Gonna try to get a dual socket 370 mobo.

Those xeons take RIMMS which are hella expensive :o

There is no such thing as a Slot2 --> Slot1 convertor.

39 bucks. What are you expecting? It's certainly cheaper than buying from a retailer.

ok, well they are not gauranteed to work is what I meant, not enough security in the purchase, I think I actually like that mobo though, but only one is listed and its gonna probably go way up at the end and the end was what, 2 days away?
