STRANGE problem...

This is odd.

Some of you may know that a few days ago Thermaltake sent me their Polo 735 HS/F cooler. I would LOVE to review it, If my computer worked.

It will start up, then die. Within a matter of seconds, it will shut itself off. I replaced the HS/F i originally had, to no avail. I replaced ALL of the parts with spares and back, and still, no luck. I eventually figured out that if I switch the jumper on my mobo to the fail safe setting, It will boot 1/5 or so of the time. Because of this, the memory timings are very low and the CPU is WAYY underclocked.

If I do manage to get into windows under these settings, I have to be careful. If I push the cpu at all, It will shut down. 10 seconds into halo, shut down. Music for awhile? shut down. No error messages, just a startling "beeoooooooooo" as the power cuts off.

When it DOES cut off, I have to COMPLETELY cut power off the the PC before it will start again. That is, I have to switch off the PSU, then on again, or switch off the Surge protector, then on again.

All of this happened the first time i booted up after installing the polo 735. Nothing strange or out of the ordinary happend to make me think otherwise about why it's doing this.

I can't tell if its a damaged PSU, bad CMOS, or a bad HS/F application causing overheating. But I did it correctly; the paste is even, the Heatsink is latched on tight and the fan is running fast and cool. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your HS is not coming in contact with the CPU very well. Make sure you didn't over-apply thermal paste.

Either that or you damaged your CPU some how.

I hope TO GOD its not the CPU. The paste was applied as a thin translucent layer, not glooping all over the place. I dunno.

    audiophile,

Try another videocard if you have. I have had similar to this before and the videocard was the answer. Don't ask me why though.

Alomst, verselly. The polo 735 seemed to clip on Tightly, but i guess not. I replaced with my old hs/f again, and it stopped.

    Weird.

heh, heh; well at least problem is solved.

I had the same prob. when I was building a new comp for my parents. The damn machine absolutely would not start, and when it did it made long beeping sounds. After reseating the CPU and heatsink at least 5 times, everything was working smoothly :bringit:
