the net part of my router died :(

the net part of my Ovislink SR-401E Router died :( Everything else works (hub, print server, etc) except the net. i does connect and starts working on every computer but after a while (sometimes 1 hour or more, sometimes 5 min or less) it just stops working! then i try pinging the router and it comes back as "Request timed out." it's not my net connection 'cause it works fine when connected directly to a comp or when using ICS (which i'm currently using)

anyway, any tips on new good routers, etc? please let me know! thanks

:fold: oh yeah... i have tried re-flashing the firmware and it didn't make any difference

I like Netgear as well. I've been disappointed in D-Link lately. Both my DI-614+'s were having massive issues with wireless. You're fine with D-Link if you don't go wireless, IMO.

I'm a fan of netgear or linksys also, you should have no problems with either.

Yeah, I like D-Link's Web Interface, but their wireless is not to be touched. Bleh! :)

What you had happen is common, i allso suggest to you get a netgear , I used to be a fan of linksys but if you do lot of data swaping between pc on any linksys router the memory in them will go out a lot faster. I had a brand new linksys router died/ not worth useing anymore after a 85GB network tranfree or after 8 hours of used allso i had 2 other before that and they had the same problem.

I love linksys. I have a combo router that has a cable modem built into it, and it supports wired, wireless, or wired/wireless combo networks. I love my combe router because there have been times I NEEDED that exrta support for wires.

    Like Lan Parties. And Things.

As for D-Link wireless...heh... yeah, don't touch that stuff. It'll mess you up real good :D

one nice thing about going wireless is that it does both. So you have that option down the road without needing to go and rebuy wireless at that time should your need change.

The other nice thing about the linksys wireless G router is if you want to do some hacking you can actually flash it and install linux on it. I haven't done that yet since I only have a wireless B router that's on 'loan' from work. But one of these days I'll get off my ass buy a G and hack it.

Sweet! right now I'm looking @ this router and this print server :D

This switch would also be nice to add to my network

I was considering going just wired, but with the prices these days on wireless, there's no point!

Good choices :D Additionally tho, if you want to extend your wireless network, get a LinkSys WAP54G (it can act as a repeater). LinkSys all teh wya!
