ok I search google with no luck. I need some type of software so i can take my hd out of their hotsway tray and turn them on/ off while my server on. I have to restart my server everytime i turn then off when it running and i know that not good for the hds. I have them on a Promise FastTrak TX4000 raid card.

Hmm any time I've had to deal with hotswap hdd's for a server the ability to do that has been incorporated with the Sever software or the mobo software. In my case it's was part of a Dell server running win2k server. OR an IBM server running AIX unix.

Ummm hmm good question I'll have to do some digging. When I set it up I just installed the mobo and raid server software that came with the systems. Then installed the OS's. I don't ever remember having to tell it that I was setting up the hotswap systems in the end they just worked. Is this a name brand rig or homebrew server?

This is a homebrew server but with some hotswap drive bays that came from newegg. I been playing around looking for something in Disk Management but im not having no luck.

    What type of hotswap bays?

Hot swap is highly dependant on the bay and its backplane. Also the bay might support hotswap but does the hard drive controller? If the hard drive controller and bay both support hotswap the software doesn't matter.

Seing that you have to reboot the system I would say your controller doesn't support hot swap. There is no generic "Hot Swap Software", its all hardware dependent.

I use 3ware Raid cards and SuperMicro hotswap drive cages because i do not know of any onboard PATA/SATA raid controllers, or non-raid controllers for that matter, that support hotswap.
