Windows Reboot
hey guys,
ok so my rig has been rock solid ever since i built it. yesterday i cleaned out the case with some canned air b/c it had lots of dust/lint from the carpet. I didn't touch anything except take off my hsf and clean the dust out. didn't repaste the cpu b/c it looked like there was enough.
put it back together and now everytime winxp pro starts up it instantly reboots??! no matter what i do. i even tried reinstalling winxp on a different drive, reboots when i try to install.
i removed some memory modules and got into winxp but then i went to go run a program and bam - reboot again? i never had this kind of problem before and I have run out of troubleshooting ideas...

Check it out.
my local pc club charges 30 bux to check psu and memory, but i really don't want to do that.
thanks again. btw, versello where did you get that crazy ass racoon. i love it. is that a flash movie??
btw, what's the best way to remove arctic silver from cpu core and hsf? alcohol?
The crazy ones? Like teh ditzy anime chicks? Or like teh psycho killer in Kill Bill? Or like... bukakke chicks?
Alcohol is the best way to remove thermal goop, but, since I don't have any around my house I just use 409 and a paper towel. Works just as good
It DOES Sound like an overheating problem, but, the temps seem normal. Hm. Download Speedfan and see if any temps are WAY too hot.
Oh, and don't worry about frying your chip if you see that teh temps are crazy high. Overheating is dangerous, but my 2800+ took 252^F for about 20 minutes, lol.
Your memory may be bad, but I doubt that.
The PSU does not seem to be an issue. I am almost CERTAIN taht it is a heating issue.
thanks again!
