Yes, that is what I am wondering, what is the fastest cpu (especially INTEL) that you can get a passive heatsink for? How fast of a PIII can you go up to, all the way to 933mhz?

I know you can get the VIa/Cirix cpus around 1.2 ghz passive and they are still cool with passive Ive seen them run Quake III without ANY heatsink on

are you gettin confused between water and air already??? GEES!

Anywho, what do ya think the comparison between temps when cooling with a stock pIII mini heatsink with mini fan, and a jumbo passive heatsink? Are slot 1 cpus any different then the socket versions of the same speed?

wait a sec, zalmans got a passive heatsink for cpus? Oh wait, it kindof looks like a fan doesn't it? I think that was 6000 series? Was that the one?

it was a regular thermaltake heatsink on the opteron.

and i specified it in the bios, to turn the fan on once it hits 40c (which it rarely did)

    oh, okay.

So it would be perfectly safe to run a passive heatsink on a 667 PIII then? Remember there would be no fan attached at all that would turn on in case of emergency cooling. It seems spooky...

If your lookin for this rig to fold your gonna get some heat. Why do you want a passive heatsink?
