AMD Gone Haywire

I just recently built an AMD Athlon64 3000+ for a friend of mine, and I've encountered a strange and annoying problem. An Athlon64 3000+ is a 2.0GHz 512K cache processor. It is running on an Abit KV8 PRO motherboard.

In BIOS it reports an AMD 3000+ 10X multiplier CPU running at 2.0 GHz.
In Windows it reports an AMD 3000+ 9X multiplier CPU running at 1.8 GHz.

In Windows the 1.8GHz figures were given to me by:
1. Control Panel | System | General
2. CPUID (which also shows a multiplier of 9X)
3. Abit's mGuru program (which also shows a multiplier of 9X)

I did not set the multiplier in BIOS to be 9x, and I cleared the CMOS just for fun.

Does anyone know what could be the problem? I havent (though should) run a benchmark and compare to those of others to see if the Windows programs are lying to me, but I dont have the computer right now to do it, and besides, I'd imagine all 3 programs wouldnt lie. What is odd is that in my experience, if you under or over clock a processor, it shows up with the adjusted name of the processor in Windows (ie Windows should tell me I have a 2800+ rather than a 3000+). But both BIOS and Windows say I have a 3000+.

Any ideas WTF could be the problem?

    Did you get the new windows driver for the A64?
