2100+ Palamino can no longer handle 2.17GHz...

edited June 2004 in Hardware
According to Prime95, my AXP 2100+ is no longer stable at 13x166MHz = 2.17GHz (2700+) at 1.700V. Might it be a cooling issue? The following temps are with my case open...

CPU: 42C Idle/49 Load
System: 39 Idle/41 Load

And my power supply reading...
+5V: 4.84V Idle/ 4.784 Load

Any suggestions? I'm thinking a better case (Coolermaster Praetorian) and cooler (Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu), and some rounded cables...

Well, with a large room-fan running at max speed next to the open case, the CPU is stable at 1.7V. Any recommendations for more viable means of cooling?

what kind of tests are u doing in prim95?

are u using the latest version, the one that gives u the option to stress ram or CPU.

I'm using 20.6.1...does it really matter? A torture test is a torture test.

    yes it does matter.

the newer version of prime95 gives u the option to stress test the CPU or RAM.

Can't be the memory either if he is using what's in his sig. BH5 chips at 166 fsb? They must have a fault if they cant do that. What happens if you try 13.5*161 instead. Same speed.

And I thought Palominos sucked at OC. I suppose my mobo is limiting overclocking of my cpu.

Very well could be, I never had that much luck. ;)
