what is an incoming & outgoing server????

i just downloaded mozilla thunderbird email, and when setting it up it wanted to know my incoming and outgoing server but i have no idea what this is. i was using hotmail, and am going to use it through thunderbird or something like that, i don't really know, lol sorry. can someone help

    your incoming/outgoing server are the pop/smtp servers that your ISP use for a real email account. I can't say for sure as I haven't used thunderbird, but it probably can't connect to a hotmail account in that fashion.

    Generally speaking if your isp is myisp.com you will have an email of user@myisp.com
    your incoming mail server will be pop.myisp.com and your outgoing mail will be smtp.myisp.com

    Hotmail is webmail and doesn't work that way.
