"Safely Remove Hardware" Via shortcut?

edited July 2004 in Science & Tech
It was my understanding that through some elaborate command line sequences you could "stop" a device that would normlly require you to open that "Safely Remove hardware" window, pick the device, hit stop, wait, etc. Does any one know the specifics of this? Thanks.

wouldn't it be easier to just go through the gui then to the trouble of typing in some obscure command? Plus depending on the hardware usually yanking it out won't hurt anything.

not when I can simply make a bat file or something. Regardless of how, what I want in the end is the ability to hit one button and have the hardware "safely stop"
