I currently am running win 98 SE because its the only legit os I have, I tryed to upgrade to win xp pro a few dayz ago BUT before it can install a blue screen displays info saying something to the effect that "If this is the first youve seen this ...Restart. run scndsk to check errors or corruption on disk and/or remove any installed HD BLA BLA Virus? BLA BLA*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xf96b463c), 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x0000000

Its all brand new I would think this would work because I have xp installed on my old comp. I reinstalled win98se & I updated bios and it still dose it.

And now I can't just be content with 98 because everytime I start up the computer it trys to install XP. What file do I have to edit to make this Just boot 98?

You need to boot from a DOS floppy and run the "sys" command.

Assuming win98 is on C drive, you would just do "sys c:" (minus quotes of course.)

This will put back the standard boot files and 98 will simply launch.

I know some older mobo set-ups have issues with xp because of the chipset they used, older VIA chipsets in particular. To get them running you needed to remove every card accept the video card to install XP. Then once it's running you could put the cards back in.

However your error seems more to do with either a ram or a hard drive problem (most likey the Hard Drive). The partition table on it may be slightly damaged and that would stop XP from installing. So first I'd recommend running a memmory checker like memtest86 for example, and also do a defrag and a full harddrive scan to make sure there is nothing wrong with it.

Of course it's also possible that there is something wrong with whatever version of XP that you have. But I'd run the tests first to make sure there is something wrong before going out and buying another copy of XP.

Thanks, i tryed that memtest86 and it did 50 or so passes and no errors came about. my mother board isnt old my whole setup is all new, i have the Asus K8V SE Deluxe, with Abit Radeon 9600 256mb, WD caviar 80GB Serial ATA 7200rpm, kingston KVR400x64c3a/256 DDR, and no pci cards installed. And everything is compable and i installed all correctly.

I checked the jumpers and formatted my HD and made a partition using fdisk, then booted from my warez version which has the sp1, and when in setup it asks what drive to install onto and it says there is no hd present, then it said there was a problem with setupdd.sys when i hit enter.

Is it my monitor??? I read that xp dosnt work with Gayway monitors, it also said one time that i should change video adapters is that mean my vid card or monitor. i found my 20 inch monitor in the parking garage in with a bunch of garbage, maybe thats why the got rid of it???

Please help, i dont know why 98 works an xp dosnt.
