Need Help Transferring To New Comp

I seem to have a little problem. I'm trying to transfer all the programs and whatnot from one computer to another. Now, that itself isn't the problem. The problem is the computer I have to get the software from is old... very old... talking original pentium line old. So I don't exactly have the option of using a program like Ghost to bring everything over... truth be told I'm not even sure what OS I'm going to be dealing with, as I'm doing this for someone else.
I was thinking about just entirely copying the old HDD, OS and all, but I wasn't sure if the OS would boot because of the drivers and whatnot... Any suggestions?

That asside the old computer shouldn't be an issue. Pull the harddrive out of it put it in as a slave on the new pc and copy or ghost over whatever it is you need.
Keep one thing in mind though. That if you are just trying to transfer the old stuff intact to a completely new machine, you can't just ghost it over as there will be way to many hardware issues for the old OS to boot. Which kinda sounds like what you are attempting. So in a case like that you'll need to do a clean install on the new system to get the OS up and running before you start bringing over the data from the old machine. By data I mean just that the data. Most of the programs on your old machine you won't be able to just copy over the program files directory for example and have them work. There are tonnes of files that programs install now into system directories user directories and reg files that won't be copied over. Some times you can get them to work by booting up the program having it crash, generally it'll say it's missing file name.xxx so you find that file on the old drive and put it in the propper directory, start up the program wait till it crashes and repeat the program etc....
That sometimes works but not always. On a new system it's best to just do a real clean install of everything. Just transfering data files like documents/downloads over.
