Can't decide on what MSI !

edited September 2004 in Hardware
Ok, the time has come for me to finally for real place my new rig order. A few months ago I was recommended the MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R K8T800 here on this board, and that was what I was planning on going with.

But just looking on Newegg, it seems there is a newer mobo out by MSI. The MSI nForce3 250 Chipset "K8N Neo Platinum". Obviously I know it is a different chipset, as this one uses the nForce3 and the other using VIA k8T800.

My question is, does anyone have a suggestion as to one over the other? I haven't heard much about nForce3 chipsets lately so not sure. Just want to make sure I'm buying the newest and best and not something that was the best 5 months ago ya know?

Any tips would be much appreciated.

I have the K8N Neo Platinum. It is a verry nice mobo!

Don't get me wrong when I say this because I am happy w/ my choice, but this mobo has bios issues. They will of course be worked out in time, but it is a new chipset and new mobo, so there will revisions!!
My biggest issue so far is that the temps were reading 68C idle and 73C load, obviously wrong! I waited checked online in the MSI Forums, and found a bios fix for the temps.
This mobo has just about every feature you could ever want and don't need.
It looks great and is laid out a little different then most, but that worked friggin great with my rig.

OH yah, this mobo can be quite picky about RAM, so do your homework!!!!!!!!

ask me anything and I'll try to help!!! ;)

I have the K8N platinum too, the BIOS issues nearly gave me a heart attack but a quick MSI style BIOS flash later (from IE) fixed that.

I really like MSI hardware, and Live Update is the best update software I have used.

The other night I updated the BIOS on my mobo, downloaded the latest chipset drivers and flashed the firmware on my DVD drive all from the same menu.
So yeah, I really like MSI...

ok I love this board i do but pray u dont get stuck with the one i got its been a bit flaky in terms of powering up and when i went to install my Zalman Cooler (turns out the Thermaltake does suck thanx for ur input there) the board refused to boot I cleared CMOS before booting as a precaution and the board didnt do anything so now I am stuck filling out one of these bloody RMA forms I had the board less then 3 weeks so like I said earlier I hope u get a good one in my case the board was probably a bad apple and I hope they can replace my board,

anyone have any experience with MSI RMA requests!!! are they reasonable or they really strict... plz let me know

k8n neo plat is a r0x0r board, with exception to the previously noted temp reading anomaly ;D got my 3000+ going at 10x240 with my ram 5:4 or so ;D
