Doom 3 won't load.

I am majorly peeved!!! :mad::mad:

Got doom 3, installed it, went to run it, died with an error that I had copy software with virtual drives, disable it or remove it.

Long story short, I removed ALL my copy software, & the directories to boot.

I still get the message, and the game won't start.

I am ready to use a BFG on the dork that put this on the CD. :bringit:

I understand they are trying to prevent illegal copies, but this does not even HINT at what it is finding, it just refuses to load. :fu:

Anyone have any ideas???

BTW I already visited the Activision site for help, but got none....

John

yeah, i believe doom 3 uses a modified version of starforce copy protection and its basically just spyware. it jacks up your machine pretty bad. i read an article the other day about how the only people that copy protection affects are those that actually have a legal right to the software. i mean, whats the point?

www.gamecopyworld.com. since you own the game, you don't even need to feel guilty about getting the crack. just get the one that says Doom 3 v1.0 [ENGLISH] No-CD/Fixed EXE RELOADED

I've read of other people having the same problems, but others do not. Strange.

I'm sorry to say but that's just lame. ID should know that if people want to copy the game they will find a crack and get away around it. Hell the official Doom 3 was up on the warez sites before it was on the shelves. This is getting ridiculous, companies should give up they aren't detering people that know what they are doing and are only serving to piss off people that are legitimately using their products.

So lets see I can legitimately by the software then have to go through the whole bullshit process of turning of virtual drives and what not which I use for legitimate reasons. I can buy the software then just crack it anyway so I can use it without having to do other things on my system. Or I could just go pirate the software in the first place, pay nothing, don't have to go hunting for cracks and don't have to deal with any crap programs like starforce.

Now lets see which option here seems to be the most beneficial to me.....hmmmm.....I'd like to thank ID and other companies for making my purchasing decisions much, much easier.

One thing to keep in mind with a crack is that if they put out a patch you'll need to play with the cd again until they put out an updated crack.

I had similar problems with Splinter Cell 2. You can either use a crack which totally defeats the point of buying a game and most probably brakes your multiplayer or try making a new user account and running the game from there.

Worked for me, just not tried it with Doom 3.

(despite my previous post), thank goodness doom3 isnt on starforce. i dont think safedisc is near as bad as starforce. can you elaborate a litte more on the differences RMF?

starforce is software that runs on your system and looks for shit that typical pirated software methods use like virtual discs for example.

Safedisc is just on the disc itself and is protection against copying the disc and is also built into the game that it checks to makes sure that it is infact a legit cd in the drive and not a copied one. Safedisc is pretty much the standard on almost an PC game these days. However I've been seing more games come up with Starforce now which is worriesome on the account of it really sucks.

I think the last colin mcrae used it aswell. There was a file available for download on the codemasters website a while back that would remove all traces of starforce from your pc if it was causing you problem. It's been known to cause all sorts of weird problems from constant crashing to abnormal mouse and keyboard behaviour.
