Theme service not turned on

edited August 2004 in Science & Tech
how do you turn on the "theme service"? by default it us usually on, but i was tweaking my PC and it turned that service off.. now i cant find it bcuz that option is no long there. how i know this? bcuz wen i try to apply a custom theme or change the display appearance, it gives me an error saying "The theme could not be loaded because the theme service is not running. You can turn the service on in the COmputer Management Administrative Tool in the Control Panel." - does anybody know where that is?

Go to the control panel. Double click "Administrative Tools." Next, double click "Services." Scroll down to the "Themes" service and double click to see its properties. Set Startup Type to Automatic and then click the Start button. That should do it for ya. :)

Ah, yes. I should have mentioned that. It's just habit for me to change it to classic as soon as I use the control panel once.

    Glad you got it working.

You can also type services.msc in the run box, thats one of the quicker ways there.

Haha. It's habit to explain the visual way. I do a lot of tech support at my job, so I find it easier to take them through icons. Apparently they don't understand you when you ask them to type something over the phone.:cool:

Heheh yeah, been there done that. I always added "click use classic view" before telling em to do anything if they were on XP.
