Which switch?

edited August 2004 in Science & Tech
I'm going to buy one of these 3 8-port switches soon, anyone have any experiences with either of them?

I guess right now i'm leaning towards the first, but purely on looks. Does buffer memory/MAC address table make much difference?

Hmm, those switches aren't from your usual heavy-hitter companies (ie D-Link, LinkSys, etc.), so I can't really comment on any experience with them, but if you'll be doing a lot of data shifting, you'll want buffer memory... otherwise there's no descernable difference you'd notice in a home network with a couple comps.

I know those are cheao, but if you want something somewhat reliable, you're going to have to spend a little more, IMO.

I'm a big fan of Netgear's switches. If you're looking for 8 ports, check this one out:

I've used many Netgear products, and I've never had problems with any of them. That price will be well worth it for the reliability. Good luck! :)

Ya netgear is generally good. I have that same switch at work on my desk but it makes a high-pitched squeeling noise. :( Unlucky me.

Anyways, Satchmo, any of those switches you have your eyes on will work fine for home use.

versello, give Netgear a call and ask them if there's anything you can do about it. I had a router that I attempted to upgrade to the latest firmware. It flashed wrong or something, and I called and asked if there was anyway to fix it. The router was at least a year and a half old. They initiated an RMA without my even asking. They ma do the same for you.
