Clocks....

I replaced my motherboard about a month ago to an Abit KV7. Works a treat except for 2 things.

1. On about 6 occassions when I've turned on the PC, the clock & date have changed drastically, not just by a few minutes, but by years. Normally it goes back to 1 Jan 2003.

2. Twice now when I've turned the PC on, everything powers up, lights come on, but after no more than a second it shuts itself down. I can fix this by clearing the CMOS memory.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

It's possible that the battery on your mobo is dead and that's why it's not keeping the correct time. However the shutting off thing sounds more like there is an issue with the power supply, ram or CPU. First thing to do is just double check that you have everything seated propperly. Next clear the CMOS and run it at default factory settings. Then run memtest86. If you have the option try a different PSU as it could be shorting out and not working right.
