Will Doom 3 Work on my brand new laptop?

edited August 2004 in Gaming
I just got a new sony vaio pcg-k23 laptop and i was wondering whether i should buy doom 3 or not. The only part im sceptical about is my graphics card.
The specs are:
2.8 ghz Pentium 4
512 sdram 60 gb hard drive
ati radeon igp 64 mgb shared graphics card

I have gone to different forums and asked friends whether it would work or not, and i have gotten different responses. Im thinkin it will work but im not sure. I wonder if i can upgrade my graphics card, but i dont think so.

hmmm, my best guess is that it will most likely work. but i dont think that will be your problem. because i imagine that at 800x600 on lowit will probably work, but will you be satisfied with that. if i had to make an educated guess,i would say that it will probably run at about 1024x768 on medium, but again, that is a guess. is there any more specifics about that card you can give us? the shared memory that is so common in laptops nowadays bothers me, but is it a 9200 or 9600 or does it not specify?

IGP, ouch! That's definately not a stellar performing INTEGRATED graphics card :( I'm quite sure it won't be playable at all. It's not even on par with the old-generation mobile GeForce 4's... and that's pretty old. People say it's more like a GeForce 2.

Non-gaming laptops don't come with shared mem btw.

well i've heard different stories here, and see no one is sure either way, i just want to know if the game will run, because my graphics card does run other graphically intense games at pretty good frame rates. And i have heard that it would be possible. I might just go buy it and return it if it doesnt work.

they're supposed to have a demo pretty soon, you could wait on that. or even go and download the cracked version just to see.
