I got a AMD vs Intel performance question

Basically all I want to know is before AMD started matching Intels speed with aretificial numbers (I know they are matching some calculation they came up with, but it still pretty much matches Intel) did AMD still out perform Intel? I am wondering this because I got that 1.3ghz Duron cpu and that is right at the end before AMD started making those 1600+ etc. claims (which are like 1.4ghz or around there).

To sum it up, I am wondering if my 1.3ghz duron could be considered like a 1500+ or is this before some optimizations were done to allow faster speeds with slower clocks?

well, the thing about that old duron, it doesnt have SSE :(

3dnow is fine, but it will not fold as fast as SSE/SSE2

So you would say it probably matches a 1.3ghz p3/4?

I know one thing that could falsify your claim, I've run folding on a 1.5ghz P4 and it has been going about 3 weeks or more and is almost 50% done with its first wu, but thats a manufacturer bought pc problem, not a cpu problem, hehe. Good thing I don't own that sh*t.
