DVD/VCR problem

Hey everybody, I am just moving into my dorm here (yeh me) and I am having a problem with playing DVDs on my PS2. Right now I have the PS2 hooked to a switcher, and the output of that goes though a VCR on its way to an old TV (I have to use the VCR because the only input on the TV is though regular cable, plus the TV will only go though channel 13.)

The problem is when I play a DVD on the PS2 the picture keeps going in and out. It will be clear for a few seconds, then it will get dark and blury for a few more seconds, then back to clear, and the cycle continues. The TV works find when watching cable or playing a game, and I know that some DVDs have protection on them that don't allow them to work right when the DVD player is plugged into a VCR, so I am wondering if the DVD I am watching has that protection and is causing the problem.

It's called macrovision. It's built into the player itself. It's ocurring because you're running through the VCR, and possibly the switcher. Go out and get an RF-Adapter from Radioshack or some place. That should take care of the problem. Or, get a PS2 RF-Switch.

Thanks, I figured it was some kind of protection. Now for the next question, is there such thing as a RF-Adapter that just converts a video RCA connection to cable? I would get the regular PS2 RF-Adapter, but I have the sound from the PS2 going out to some speakers and would like to continue to do that (cause watching DVDs and playing games isn't as nice with a mono speaker.)

Hmmm. You could get a standard RF adapter from Radioshack and only plug in video. I've never heard of one that JUST converts video.

if you get a regular RF adaptor you can just plug in your video and thats it, leave the audio plugged into your speakers.
