NO sound

for some reason, in my taskbar i dont see the volume control icon - now i dont have sound.. i tried to run the program from START>allprograms>accessories>entertainment>volumecontrol, but i still hear nothing... also i restarted and no change occured

    well.. im not sure wat specs you need but...
    - XP pro
    - 1.8 gHz
    - 512 RAM
    - 60 gig HD
    - 128 MB vid card

    If you don't see the volume control in your task bar 99% of the time that means that your sound card isn't being detected or the driver got corrupted.

    RIght click on 'my computer' then go into your hardware settings and see if your soundcard has a warning symbol next to it.

    If it does and you have an actual sound card as opposed to onboard sound. Power off remove the sound card power on delete the device if it's still there power off plug in the sound card, power up and reinstall the drivers for it.

    If it's on board sound same deal, only you can't unplug it you have to dissable it in the bios.
