cable modem and router question

I am new to cable modems as we have never had anything here but dial-up until now. I signed up for it and they gave me a self installation kit which includes a cheesy "Scientific Atlanta" modem ( about the size of a 10 pack of floppys)
I figured it to be a cheap peice of junk and also wanted to connect a total of two computers to internet so my son and I could do a little gaming together. Anyway I went out and bought a "Linksys" Cable Modem (BEFCMU10) and a "Linksys" Cable/DSL Router (BEFSR41).
Are these good products or should I return them and get somthing else?
I could not find any place on the net that had cable modem comparisions.

Linksys stuff is pretty good stuff. Linksys is a division of Cisco systems so I'd definitely trust their equipment.

I'd recommend the Alcatel SpeedTouch 510 Series router, Friendly GUI, easy configuration, easier than the Linksys, reliable...

both of those devices are good choices. just make sure you return the modem to the cable company if they are charging you a monthly lease on it.

Hmm, I've had bad experiences with Linksys, so I would have to recomment DLink. Also, your ISP, might require the use of THEIR modem. I know mine does. It's programmed specifically for them. It's probably not gonna make that much of a difference anyways. I'm using a Scientific Atlanta, too, btw.
