ATi Drivers Are So F'n Shit

edited December 2004 in Hardware
Nuff said, sorry but I need to vent. Just wasted 36 minutes of my life trying to install the 4.9 cats and the all new and improved Control Centre thing.

I love the way my 9600 Pro makes my games run but seriously, I'm not going to buy another ATi card till they sort this shit out, nothing has changed since I had an onboard Ragpe Pro Turbo in 1999.

Oh, and the first person that tells me to download Omega drivers gets a brick in the face, I shouldnt have to use 3rd party drivers to make a modern card work on a modern OS.

...

Ok, feeling better now, thanks :)

Ok, whats the problem really? Lag in games? What are you trying to run? I haven't had a problem with ati for 3 years now.

Nothing at all wrong with how it runs games, dont mind that at all, its just the configuration and the interface that you have to do everything, its just not good.

Installing a new set is a complete bitch too without programs like Driver Cleaner.
    Thats basically it...

To me at least, their control panel and also their new ccc are very simple. Just use ati's own driver cleaner. Can't be more simpler imo.

I just really dont like the software. Its not userfriendly and it looks like cack.

I know how it should be installed, and its easy if you follow the instructions but there is no reason why they cant supply a driver file that you double click, restart and then use. Nvidia can manage it, have no problems with the Forceware drivers on my other machines no matter which way they are installed. Though they have gone downhill more recently with the new look interface.

Oh, and the CCC, (I'm assuming thats the new config program) looks horrid, its like some 80s film mockup of what computers will look like in the year 2020. Did they employ blind people that dont have PCs to design that?

As you have probably realised Im not ever going to change my mind on these things so take everything I say with a very large pinch of salt.

    I just like to bitch...

One more thing too.. 42 megs for a driver? Glad I'm not on dialup, thats all I can say. This unified driver crap that the industry is so keen on has to go!

    Sorry for the language too!

All i'm saying is that they work like a dream for me and all the peeps i know. Their new support for span across 2 monitors is just fantastic.

All I can say is I keep seeing small checkerboarded areas and snow as well as artifacts ( by artifacts I mean a tree seems to extend to one side where it should not)

ati has never really been known for their drivers. i knew what i was getting into when i got a 9800, but when you finally see someone from ati actually recommending omega's drivers over their own drivers, something is messed up. ever since then, i have been using omega's and havent had any problems . . .
