Ok I used to visit this site alot in the past and Im kinda a noob again. Anyways, I have a older gateway system and the PSU went bad so I bought a new one. My question is the PSU i bought has a 4 wire square plug on it for newer mobos. Doesnt that need to be plug in to work? Heres a pic.

Only if the motherboard has a plug for it. If it's an older Gateway, more than likely it doesn't have one. You'll be fine not plugging it in. Just tie-wrap it back. :)

check to see if the power switch (wires from your case) is still plugged into the mobo correctly.

Ehhh...doesn't Gateway computers demand propriety powersupplys? Dell and all the other brands does as far as i know. I'm actually afraid that you have fried the mainboard with that powersupply. I hope i am wrong though.

OOPS, you might be right Mack, I changed out a gateway PSU for a friend last year, and stopped at the fact that the mounting holes didn't line up! had to call Gateway and get a replacement.
