Just got 6800 GT
I just got my BFG 6800 GT OC 256 megs delivered a few minutes ago. Already slapped it in and tried out Doom 3. All I can say is this thing is a fucking beast of a card.
Most sites I saw selling it for on average $430 and +. Ironically I got it from Best Buy online of all places for only $399.00 !! I couldn't believe Best Buy actually had it cheaper then everywhere else. It had been out of stock for ages on the site, checked 2 days ago, boom in stock. Ordered it, then as soon as I was done, boom out of stock. Guess I got real lucky!
Anyway for those of you considering the card, it is bad ass. I haven't run any benchmarks yet as I'm waiting to get my new computer together, but just from comparing Doom 3 to before and after its night and day.
I was running 1024 * 768 Medium quality before and struggling to stay above 20 fps. I popped this fucker in, put reso to 1280 * 1024, High Settings, everything on, and 4X AA. Thing was running on average 60fps ! lol it is insane.
First thing I noticed about the card when I took it out of the box too, was its fucking huge. It only takes up one slot, but it is much longer than your typical AGP. So if you have stuff behind the PCI slots like drives or cables, it can be a bitch to get in and hooked up correctly. The card also weighs probably 5 times as much as my old Geforce4 Ti4200. Definately has a nice high quality feel to it with the weight. It also has a massive nice heatsink with 2 fans on it, and blue LEDS which I wasn't expecting. THe fans are also silent too which I am glad to find out. I can't hear it at all (then again my heatsink fan whirs so fucking loud I can't hear much else anyway).
If you have the money, I'd highly recommend it. I went with the BFG card simply because it comes overclocked straight out of the box. I didn't want to have to fuck with it myself, and figured for the same prices as normal clocked cards it just couldn't be beat.
So far I give it great marks. Only time will tell how well it stands up in games like HL2 and the like.
