Windows Crap

I have been having some problems with my computer since I built it a few weeks ago. I am almost regretting not buying one. Anyways, here are the problems.

I have experienced several random reboots. I thought it was the CPU overheating, but I was told that 50-52C was normal.

I reformated the computer, and now Windows locks up when the screen saver activates. Then I restart and it will say "Windows has recovered from a serious error." WTF?!

Also, several times, when booting a blue screen will appear and say that "computer has stopped to prevent damage to hardware and that I need to reboot...etc" WTF again.

What is going on? I am sort of dissapointed that my PC building experience wasn't as good as expected, and I am sort of worried that my PC is messed up forevert. Please help and thank you.

make sure you have all the latest drivers installed for all your devices. i had the same problem when i got my new board and all i needed was an updated nic driver. go to your motherboard homepage and find the latest driver package and bios update. do the same with all your other devices.

Random reboots could be the result of a bad power supply (try checking the voltages) or bad RAM. It happens to the best of us.

ok, I checked the RAM with memtest86. After like 6 passes there were no errors, so I don't think the RAM is faulty. I mean, it is Crucial RAM, so it's pretty good stuff.

The psu is an Antec TruePower, and they seem to be reccomended a lot, so it's hard to believe the psu isn't up to snuff. If it is, however how would I check that considering I don't have another psu to try?

If you have a voltmeter or multimeter handy, you can check. Post back if you do.

Also, check all your connections. A lose connection can cause that as well. Make sure all your cards are seated properly as well. Does the hard drive click ever? When I had HDD going bad with clicking, etc. it would cause blue screens and lockups.

There are a lot of possibilities. More than likely it is something very simple. Don't get discouraged. You'll learn a lot more from this than if everything had gone smoothly. :)

The earlier members of this forum had bigtime problems with a now quite famous MB: Abit KT7 (RAID). It was a greate MB (just sold my last one on qxl :( ).
It was a great MB if you could get it working but hell it was a pain in the ass if you didn't. But the greates thing about that MF MB was that it quadropled my knowledge on PC's. All the problem solving and OC'ing I got to do on that board is unforgetable!!
So take this as a learning experience! It stinks as you go but in the end you will succed! (With a little help from your friends on this forum!)
    Hang in there buddy!

If you think about heat, take cover off and aim 220V fan at it, that will cool everything right down, see what happens.
Have you got Hyperthreading enabled in BIOS, if so disable and reboot. Is the PC stable now ?
1-Uninstall processor, reboot.enable HT, reboot, let it install drivers again for both processors. I would think if its new board, the chipset drivers are OK ?
