Mobo/Processor Combo

Hey guys, I am looking to buy a new motherboard and processor but I really don't know what I'm looking for. I am going to be playing the next wave of games (HL2, EQ2, etc.) and have a spending cap of about $500. I was thinking of an Asus + AMD combo but that is not concrete. If you guys could give me some suggestions that'd be great, thanks.

    I love my combo. With a $500 budget, you could spring for a faster CPU.

    It really depends on what the rest of your system is, AKA Graphics card. Please list the rest of your hardware, so as to recommend a good combo. ;)
