Problem opening downloads (Win98)

edited October 2004 in Science & Tech
Hey,

Basically I use a combination of Internet Explorer and Mozilla Fire Fox... Recently I tried to download a couple programs (using both browsers), the program downloads... but when I try and open the program... Windows acts as if it's trying to open the program, but nothing happens. Specifically the program I want to download is the Bearshare Install file. I have tried to download other EXE files and they will not work either. I can still download pictures and video, and they open properly in Real Audio, or Windows Media Player... but basically just any EXE file, once downloaded... does the same thing. the program is "saved" to whereever I save it to on my hard drive, and it remains there... the programs just won't open...

Any ideas? I run Windows 98

Are you sure the program has finished downloading completely? Also can you download and open a .zip file for example?

Hey, just wanted to post my own follow-up lol... I tried another forum (that was a bit more lively) and got some great help. Apparently in some way or another I got the Sir Cam virus... which ruins the registry for EXE files...

The .reg file is located at http://filext.com/info/archive/index.php/t-12.html - that website has the proper registry code for all forms of Windows...

Just want to thank the guys at computing.net for the help!
