A7v333 v2 vs NF7-S v2

edited November 2004 in Hardware
It’s been so long since I have been to this site I forgot my user name and password.

I picked up a brand new NF7-2 v2 on E-bay and can’t decide how or if I want to use it in my main rig.

Will the NF7-2 board offer me much more performance then my existing Asus A7V333 Board? Are there any issues or downsides to the NF7-S board?

From what I can gather in the features on both boards- The Abit NF7-S is a better overclocker and it runs higher ram- Supports 2 DIMM DDR 400 (Max. 2GB) & features new dual 400MHz DDR memory controllers that deliver up to a 50% increase in bandwidth. Also 5bit FID (Frequency ID): By ABIT 5-bits FID Override technology, users can get variety of CPU over-clocking sets.
    Also supports 200/266/333/400MHz FSB Processors.
    Hope this helps.

Also, with the NF7-S you get the Nvidia soundstorm audio onboard which is by far the best audio you can get on a motherboard. The Nforce 2 ultra 400 chipset is far superior to the VIA KT-333 chipset that is on the Asus board you are comparing it to. The only VIA chipset that compares to the Nvidia is the KT880 and I've never had one of those, and it's not nearly as mature as the Nvidia. The NF7-S is in my opinion the best Nforce 2 board ever made, and you should definitelyt use it in your main rig.

Thnx adham, I forgot to mention the soundstorm onboard. I agree its a superior mobo. Maybe use the Asus board for the backup Icrontic folding rig. (ahem)

One thing I just remembered....Abit makes 2 NF7-S boards, the NF7-S Rev2 board, and the NF7-S2. I'm not sure which board you have, but if you ended up with the S2 than you will not have the soundstorm audio. It will still have 5.1 though it will not be as high quality. I also think you won't have access to multipliers if that is in fact the board you have. However, you will still have a board that oc's the fsb very well, and is a better all around package than the A7V-333. I hope you got the Rev2 board, but I still think you will notice a big jump in performance with either. Best of luck to you, and you are very welcome.
