Partition Magic corrupted my hard disk!
Hi peeps.
I laucnhed Partition Magic v8.02 the other day, at start up it gave me a message about an error on one of my hard disks (Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB SATA). Cant remember what message was, but I recall it being a 3 letter acronym and had the letter 'R' in it. I had the option of allowing PM to fix or not. I clicked NO for a couple of times after each session of PM i used. Had no problems at this point. On the 3rd time I launched PM it prompted me again so I thought I click Yes just to shut it up, thinking that it wont hurt my system. How wrong I was! I quit PM, then re-launched it. This time it not have any messages, but I notice that the Volume ID for my main Windows partition was displaying random characters rather than 'WINXP' that I had set. I thought nothing if it and thought a reboot is necessary for the fix to take effect. Upon reboot time, I can no longer boot into Windows. The system will display the splash screen for about 5sec with HD activity then it resets itself. The same goes for when I tried booting into Safe Mode. So with this faulty system I decided to hook up my old IDE hard drive into IDE slot, install Windows XP again. This worked until I installed the SATA driver. After installing the SATA driver, I reboot, Windows would load up until it can see the corrupt SATA hard drive, then the system rests itself. It did this for 3 times before Windows wont load at all. Hangs at black screen before XP splash displays.
It looks like the only option for me to restore full operation from the corrupt HD is to do a low level format from within the RAID BIOS screen. I have Abit NF7-S v2.0 motherboad. Is there any tool or util that can possible save my drive and current data on it?
Thanks in advance.
