Computer Lockups on Lan

edited November 2004 in Hardware
Ok this has been an ongoing problem with this computer. I used to be on wireless internet, and i would plug into a usb port for my internet access. When i went a friends house i would just go through My onboard Network card on the Soyo Kt 333 Plat. Motherboard. ANd it would get internet access, but as soon as i would start playing a game like counterstrike i could play and it would randomly just freeze! SO i just didnt care then couse that was like 1 day out of 3 months that this would happen cause only when i went to friends.

Now that i have moved into my own place i just go through a hub to my onboard network card. I get internet fine and i can play some other games, but when i go on counter strike or Quake 3 my computer will last about 30 min average and lockup completly and i have to power down my pushing button for seconds. Now i have done everything to this latly... reinstalled windows, all drivers, i did a total reformat after the reinstalling windows did not work and sure enough still freezes. I have no idea what else i can do besides buy a new comp...last thing i wanna do.

Now i went into Computer managment --> Event viewer --> Application and i have mainly 2 things.... Errors and information..... The errors are source Application Hang And the information ones are eapol. EAPOL it says that this service has been started successfully but that seems to crash my comp... if that makes any sense at all to any of you guys?

I would appreciate any help offered.. i think im going to go to a usb network card again and just use that but if u could help me fix that it would be alot better than forking out cash for that. Thanks alot
Josh

Make sure you have updated drivers for the onboard ethernet.

Could be a failing nic or a resource issue. I'd try picking up another nic and just dissable the onboard one. NIC's are cheap right now you can get a good one for around $20.
