I wish to insert a audio cd into my computer and rip the music at a decent bitrate into "my music" in a good mp3 format that I can then replay on windows media player. What is a good, easy program to do the ripping?

    Cdex is the best

I find Itunes works awesome. Simple to use great for organizing music folders pulls the cd data from off the internet for song titles and such. Plus I've found that it's the only program that will get through all the copy protection on any cd I've thrown at it. I've found with cdex on some cd's I get pops, breaks and distortions from copy protection.

I threw away Cdex after trying this.

    EAC

What Hal said, EAC if you can get your head around it, CDex if you cant.

Check it out... if the Reg entry works for you (i don't think it works on anything but XP... not sure), you may choose this option cause win media player rips the CD's pretty quick-- and it's damn easy for beginnners.
    go here to get it

i do however wholeheartedly endorse EAC ("Exact Audio Copy" linked elsewhere in this thread) because of its audiophile attention to detail (finds erros, etc-- tons of options)

OK - that's cool. Always good to have another tool / option.

    Couple questions -

    1) What version(s) MediaPlayer is this FOR?
    2) My MediaPlayer 10 HAS the option to RIP to MP3. Does this make 'RIGHTS MANAGED" MP3s? And will this patch stop that?

I don't really need to know I suppose - But like I said, nice to have another tool.

And I love how EAC lets me save the filenames EXACTLY the way I like.
    Ex:
    ARTIST - TRACK# - SONGNAME

    indeed, EAC is THE best

GO HERE FOR THE Win Media Player registry entry -- enables MP3 ripping right from the familar ol' standard!

i got this reg entry from someone else-- i used it for WMP v 9. are you sure v10 has the mp3 feature "built in"?

the files are created by lame using this reg entry, so far as i know-- good ol' mp3's-- not mp3 pro... i'm not sure what you mean by "rights managed"...
i haven't looked at the reg entry in a while, so i forget the details...

i'll investigate and get back to you

Audiograbber works great with grabbing cd adudio and putting it into mp3 format, also it downloads the information right off the internet to name the songs and put them in order. Another good thing about this program is its free now.

    Take a look:
