A lot more often I buy games with the key stuck to the inside of the box on a sticker. I think its the retailers who have to stick them in the cases these days and sometimes they just dont do it. Big cardboard boxes with the key on the front of the jewel case always seemed to work, that and keys printed inside the manual.

I think manuals are on their way out though thanks to the cost cutting department at Vivendi. Shit, more than likely installation media is on its way out too.

The manual says it should be on the upper left corner inside the dvd case, well its not there, nor any where in the manual (printed or a label lost in it), and its not behind the paper covering on the outside of the dvd case, so it is no where to be found.

...I checked www.unrealtournament.com and it said to return it to the store, but it seems weird as they probably will think I want to get 2 cd keys from it or something (CompUSA employees aren't nearly as retardantly dumb as other stores like say... BESTBUY!), plus now I have to waste time and gas. Oh well, I am going to try.

...thinking about the cd key scheme, could that ever work? I could claim that it had no cd key and return it so I could get two? Or is there some sort of identification on each unit that would stop me from getting that to work?

I work in PC retail and i can assure u nobody puts the CD keys in the boxes the distributor does all that, we would be busy all day long putting CD keys and other Activation serial numbers in games bsides the retailer could care less if they lose a game really most places make 10 bux selling the game 2 u.

$10 to give you a little DVD sized box that arrived on a truck and needs no preparation is quite a good return.

"$10 to give you a little DVD sized box that arrived on a truck and needs no preparation is quite a good return."

no no u dont get it we make 10 bux and they buy them for like 30, 40 buxish the publisher makes alot of the money and in my case our head office warehousing takes a big cut but the retails stores themselves do not.

yeah....but the retailers still makes $10 on every game, and these games are small, require little/no preparation or upkeep. therefore they are v good for the company.

I used to hate them but now I understand why all games have them, it would suck if they stopped making pc games because everyone just copied them.

excuse me, $50 for each and every game is ridiculous. plus now with doom 3 and hl2 starting at $55, it's getting worse. when ut2004 came out, i bought the special edition for $29, it was worth it, but to be honest, i download almost everything right now. it's my form of peaceful protest. and this is not game related, but when the RIAA cries poverty, and then i flip on MTV and see these guys on MTV Cribs with their giant house and their 6 $200,000+ cars, I feel no compassion ok? Look at the numbers of sells for a major game versus the numbers of illegal downloads, I believe the music, game, and movie industries is using our current state of living in fear to be able to use unconstitutional methods to try to stop something a very small minority of people actually do. it's their current way of justifying the $16 CD, the $9 movie ticket price, which by the way we get to pay for 10 minutes of commercials befor the movie ever starts now, and the $55 game.

Bought a dvd player/recorder for my pc and it came with a cd that had one of the movie playing programms on it. Loaded the cd and put in the # on the case and guess what? It said it was an invalid ser #!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wrote to the company I bought it from and the company that makes the program. That was 4 mnths ago, and still no answer. Another words (Screw Offf Dude), We got your money! And now, I can't even play a dvd on my pc, because it doesn't have the codecs or whatever it is that it needs. AAAAASSSSHHHAAATTTSSS
Oh, And by the way, I agree with you kanez, wholeheartedly.

Hawk download the Kazaa Lite codec pack, I'm sure it comes with a free DVD decoder which you can install to get your DVDs working.

Personally I have no conscience what so tend to "aquire" licenses as and when needed.

true! you know when you're a little late on making a payment, they act like you're the worst scumbag in the world, but when you need something from them, "it's going to take 4 to 6 weeks to resolve this issue sir." i'm gonna go download something right now :rarr:

Amen, i agree with you whole heartedly on all of your posts. i've spent more than enough on games/software just to get screwed with something dumb like an "invalid cd key". if this happens to me tho, i'll either tell them it was invalid, or just find an alternitive key...
