I need more info on a laptop comparison (Sorry for the Long e-mail)

edited December 2004 in Hardware
I am confused between some specs for laptops:
My problem is, some laptops have P4 HT 3 GHz,800Mhz front bus but with 512K cache Level 2. Another has P4 3 GHz HT 533Mhz front bus with 1 MB cache level 2 both with 15,4" and 128MB video memory, and the third has Centrino 1.6Ghz with 400 Mhz front and 2MB cache level 2 and 64 MB video 14.0" all with 512 MB memory and I HAVE PUT DETAIL SPEC.

the laptop will be used for : 3d Studio max (Rendering) but not too complecated animation, photoshop and AutoCAD with office and some other architectural programs.

So should i choose more front bus and Hyper Thread HT Technology or more cache level 2 or video this is confusing and they are all close prices. So please if any one have experiance with using laptops and designing softwares explain to me which one would you choose over another.. email me with any questions

i would go with the first one. it has an 800mhz fsb witch should make up for the diffence in the cashe. it seems just to have more power, not only that, it has a dvd burner in it!!!! unless you want battery life(but im guessing you don't b/c of what your useing it for).

first of the Warranty for HP is horrible shipping to HP and service from HP (and you are not guarunteed to get back the unit that you shipped) the biggest thing I have found when dealing with HP on behalf of my customers is the waiting period 2-3 weeks. All that stuff makes it almost not worth buying Consumer Report rated Toshiba laptops and Apple notebooks in the same kickass product category (ok so i made that up). Toshiba warranties are considered better because you can go to your local service center and have your machine fixed there, also Toshiba is International so you could be in Saudi Arabia and u can still get it serviced. Aside from warranty the first 2 product's are quite close in spec. FSB is slightly different the Toshiba does have the HT technology in it which means more battery consumption again assuming you are not worried about that, the ability to load and run programs simultaneously is a benefit there. onboard DVD burner not a real big bonus seeing as usually they are either 4x or 8x and you can purchase an external with 16x and dual layer capability. in my humble opinion Toshiba is the winner.
