Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 vs. Altec Lansing MX5021

edited December 2004 in Hardware
I plan to replace an old set of Altec Lansings (2.1). For my use I don't see the point or cost of going 5.1 or higher. I'm curious of recommendations anyone has.

Two that I'm very interested in are the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s and the Altec Lansing MX5021s. I've read very good things about both. Anyone have these or better yet able to actually compare the two?

A set of 5.1s aren't out but I only listen to music and don't do much with gaming. I watch my DVDs on my home system.

Thanks!

I just got a set of the logitech z680's for only 200 bux-5.1 at a good price. In my opinion go with Klipsch-alot better sound than Altec

Not sure what your looking for but I got this in my e-mail for sales deals. They are normally $99 and on sale for $29. There's a lot of good reviews on different sites about this speaker system too.
Here's another set you might like for $54.99. Cambridge Soundworks And these get good reviews also.

I don't know about Cambridge these days, but when Creative bought Cambridge, their quality started declining. Since then I've stayed away from Cambridge.

I also haven't heard the newer Altec's, but from my past experience, they generally make decent / average multimedia speakers. Nothing compared to Klipsch or Logitech IMO.

be nice to hear them side by side but don't know of anywhere in Denver to do that. Since I've been looking I see there up some 'upscale' lines of PC speakers. Like Swans and others. I see Bose has a set out. Not sure what to think about Bose in general though.

Too bad Paradigm doesn't make PC speakers. Sure like them on my home system.

The general consensus is that you could get so much more for the price of Bose.

As for your home theatre speakers, why not hook them up to your PC? That's what I did with my Klipsch SF-2 and KSW-10 sub. It sounds so heavinly.

I went from a pair of Dell included Altec 2.1 speakers to my Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 and I still love these speakers! The 200 dollar Logitech Z-680 deal at Amazon is looking very appealing tho... I'd love those speakers but don't think they'll be that cheap for too much longer and I don't have the money yet, haha.

The system is too far away to make it worth while. Rather have the sound in front of me.

Had thought about buying both locally (two different stores unfortunately) and auditioning them both. Take them both back and buy the one I like off the web.

Don't like the hassle too much though.
